How often do associates become partners?
How does the practice handle negative online reviews?
Is there a Mentor in the House?
How busy will you really, truly, actually be?
Where will your patients come from?
What will the buy-in cost and what does it include---What’s not included?
How numerous and how strong are their relationships with primary care MDs and ODs?
How important are word of mouth patient referrals to the practice?
Is the practice adding multiple doctors at the same time?
How will the practice market you so that you can both be quickly successful?
Is the practice considering a merger, acquiring another group or perhaps selling out to private equity?
If I prefer not to become a partner, will I be allowed to stay on as an employee?
What are the steps to becoming a partner?
What are the advantages of becoming a partner?
Would you mind if I talk with the last doctor who was here?
In what ways is the practice always looking to improve patient eye care?
How happy are you with your EMR?
What does the group do or want to do to attract and keep top notch non MD talent?
How will you fit into the practice

What kinds of patients will be sent to you from other doctors in the organization
Tech support...experienced--- turnover?
Can you meet and speak with people in other departments, not just doctors. Such as front desk, billing, techs, marketing, administration. Do you tend to hear a lot of people talking about why they believe in the organization?
How are decisions, especially big decisions in the practice, made?
Has your attorney reviewed your contract? Suppose you lose your job or decide to switch practices...Will you be able to stay in the area and still practice locally or will you and your family have to relocate?

OjO at AAO Conversation with the Experts Ophthalmology Recruitment Ophthalmology jobs Online at the American Academy of Ophthalmology

Ophthalmology practices...If you're having a tough time finding a great ophthalmologist for your practice opportunity or partnership position you're not alone.

OjO's own, Drew Caldwell, will be at several AAO "Conversations with the Experts" for one on one conversations about physician recruitment in the eye world.

"The most important thing you can do as a recruiting practice is to prove to young job-seeking ophthalmologists that you have a patients over profits mentality, that you are guided by core values and ethics, that you have a collaborative team, and that you have a legitimate need for help.  Certainly there are a lot of other important factors that drive candidates to pick one position over another, but these are a few of the key points to discuss with your doctor candidates."  Practices who face the biggest hurdles in the hiring process include solo and two doctor practices in less popular locations, particularly those in rural areas more than 90 minutes from a major airport or sizable community. Additional factors that influence career decisions are:  doctor and staff turnover, available mentoring, compensation and bonuses, ASC ownership, overhead, option for partnership and more.

Meet with Drew to talk about creative and inexpensive ways to market your job opportunity and find MD talent.

If you'll be at the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting in Chicago, 2018 and would like to reserve a time to talk, send us a quick note to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Restoring Sight. Transforming Lives.

https://www.seeintl.org/countries/

Young and Experienced Ophthalmologists who are interested in medical eye trips, should check out SEE International.
"SEE works with partners around the world to restore sight and transform lives of underserved populations. We are committed to working in developing countries, where 90% of the world’s blind live, with the aim of ensuring all have access to quality eye care."
SEE does a great job of vetting and screening ophthalmologists so that the care given is exceptional.  Only Board Certified Ophthalmologists are able to be lead surgeons on their trips.  Ophthalmology Residents and Fellows can attend and pitch in but cannot perform surgery.  This is a great way for YOs to get exposure to the world's blind poor, who desperately need our help!  SEE has a lot of opportunities, especially for fellowship trained ophthalmologists to teach and train ophthalmologists in their home countries.  This is a neat, sustainable way to empower local eye surgeons to better care for their communities.
Personal note:  The late, Dr. Harry Brown, was the energetic, compassionate, visionary behind SEE International. Harry's life touched so many and his legacy lives on through SEE.

I just had to post this because it is a really unique, attention getting ophthalmology job listing.

Granted this style of post won't work for every practice but it is an encouragement to be authentic when you're posting your ophthalmology practice opportunity on the AAO or elsewhere. Kudos to Dr. Evan Wolfe for trying something novel!

OPHTHALMOLOGIST to join our way-busy, wicked-fun, utopian, MD/OD practice in suburban Alaska!
Wolf Eye Center, Inc
WASILLA, Alaska

Seriously, we are friggin' awesome (if not entirely utopian or modest), and we need you to join us to absorb the tremendous demand for our amazing patient care experience!

If you are a highly skilled, motivated, and genuinely friendly surgeon (no snobs please), launch a fantastic chapter with us, in our gorgeous, state-of-the-art, free-standing, 12,000 sf eye center with full optical, technical, and administrative support.

Plan on starting with 400 cataracts per year in a sexy new multispecialty ASC (which you should buy into!).

Work with every conceivable type of patient, injury, and medical/surgical eye disease, in close collaboration with me and our two fabulous, eminently capable optometrists.

This is not the boonies. We currently offer Symfony and toric IOLs, iStents, blephs, SLT, PIs, and minor office adventures, but refer most surgical glaucoma, cornea/refractive, retina, peds, and complex plastics. Feel free to add new services and overflow our parking lot! Lots of latitude, minimal attitude. Just saying.

We are spoiled brats, and have every diagnostic/treatment gadget that we want. We work our technicians, scribes, and opticians like rented mules, to make the docs' day easier (somewhat kidding). Our expert full-time IT, HR, and billing heros will keep your productivity maximized. So far we have refused to implement EMR, because they are sucky, and slow us down. There, I said it.

You will make serious Benjamins, with full bennies. We even have our own in-house Krav Maga studio. Weird, huh? Prepare to be amazed, not appalled. We're looking for a long term partner track relationship, with the all the responsibilities that requires, but you'll be treated like royalty.

Wolf Eye Center is strategically located in suburban Wasilla, in the Mat-Su Valley of southcentral Alaska. It's a spectacular setting of natural beauty with endless outdoor recreation possibilities, excellent schools, small town charm, actual cultural events, minimal traffic, no commuting, paltry sales tax, and no state income tax!

Please visit www.alaskavisit.com for an intro to our area. It's mostly true! And again, this isn't the edge of the earth. I'm from New Jersey, and I believe we've got pretty much every urban/suburban amenity here. Except decent pizza. It's pretty awful. I have to make it on the grill.

I really look forward to discussing this position with you (and trying to convince you how wonderful winter can be). Please email your situation to me (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) or call the cell (907-232-8046...remember AK is 1 hour earlier than Pacific time).

Best regards,

Evan Wolf, MD PhD
